| DRAM Modules Q&A |
| |
|
|
| |
| A: ECC stands for Error Correcting Code, which means the module can detect errors and repair them by itself. With ECC functionality, the computer system is more secure. Therefore, ECC modules are designed for workstations or servers.

| Q2: Can the dark spots or dust on pins be cleaned with naphtha or other cleanser? |
|
| |
| A: Usually, an eraser is good enough to clean the pins of dust or grime.
|
| |
|
|
| |
| A: CL is CAS Latency, the time of delay or preparation when data is being read or written. One CL2 module takes 2 clock ticks to prepare to read or write data from when the command is received. In general, a module with a smaller CL value is made with more advanced manufacturing processes, and the price is relatively higher. |

| |
| Q4: May different spec modules be used together if not under the dual channel purpose? |
|
| |
| A: Using different spec modules together is not recommended, since the system might go wrong or not boot when BIOS detecting different SPD settings. |
| |
| |
| Q5: How can the module be made to perform even better than its specification? |
|
| |
| A: We don’t recommend users to change BIOS settings of JEDEC standard spec module for the purpose of increased performance. Doing so may cause system instability.
|
| |
| |
| Q6: How to change the SPC settings? |
|
| |
| A: We don't recommend users to change BIOS settings of JEDEC standard spec module. Doing so may cause system instability.
|
| |
| |
| Q7: How do I plug the module into the memory slot of the motherboard? Are there any suggestions or tips? |
|
| |
| A: It’s easy to plug the module by yourself. Just pay attention to the position of the memory slot (Mistake-Proof Plug). Orient the module at the correct position and direction, then gently push it straight down with your thumb. Be sure to turn the computer off before installing or removing modules.

| |
| |
| Q8: Why is a burned pin is considered to be user-caused damage rather than a product quality issue? |
|
| |
| A: The main reasons for burned pins are dust on the module, or incorrect module installation on the motherboard. Since we do onboard testing on every single module before selling, quality issues are immediately identified before shipment. This guarantees that only qualified products are sold.

| |
| Q9: Does ADATA manufacture its own IC products? If not, where do ADATA brand IC items come from? |
|
| |
| A: Since ADATA has great supply chain power, we can design JEDEC based IC's or even ones with higher specifications according to customers' needs.
|
| |
| |
| Q10: Why does my ADATA overclocking module just boot at standard SPD? |
|
| |
| A: In order to meet different motherboard and CPU limitations, overclocking modules usually use lower level SPD as default setting. Therefore, adjusting CPU frequency, memory clock, and timing parameters are required.
